Thornton Hibs Ladies Football team

Thornton Hibs Ladies Football team

John Laing9 Mar - 19:02

Team launch was a roaring success

The weather in Memorial Park was absolutely perfect for the official launch day of the Thornton Hibs Ladies Football team.

After congregating at the ground, guests were invited into the Pensioners Hut for tea, coffee, cakes and a general chit-chat. Then the guests followed the bagpiper, Jack Burns, into the ground.

Girls from the younger teams held the Thornton Hibs Ladies team green and white ribbon that Fife Provost, Jim Leishman cut for the official opening ceremony. He spoke enthusiastically about what lay ahead for the ladies and girls plus he revealed that his last ever game as a player was for Oakley United at Thornton Hibs' ground. (I'm sure he barely recognised the place from he played!)

Stevie Hamilton, who co-ordinated the whole event, also spoke well. Other 'celebrities' in attendance included Jenny Gilruth MSP, Cllr Daniel Wilson, Cllr Derek Noble and from a personal point of view I was thrilled to be introduced to the former Leith Hibby, Mickey Weir!

Coaching staff followed by the players emerged from the pavilion individually when they were introduced. After that a band (sorry guys - forgot to get your name) played for a while plus the large fundraiser they had organised was won by M & S Elite Roofing Cladding.

Pictured L-R are Jim Leishman, Stevie Hamilton, Olivia Blair and Jack Burns. More photos to follow.
