Haddington Athletic v Thornton Hibs

Haddington Athletic v Thornton Hibs

Alister Winter

East of Scotland Football League - Premier Division

Match reporter: JOHN LAING

Thornton Hibs earned their first point in the Premier League thanks to a performance that was night and day in comparison to their opening day efforts.

Ciaran Healy twice came close to breaking the deadlock in the opening minutes then Daniel McNab smacked one over the bar from 20 yards.

At the other Macaulay Jarrett made a fine tip-over to deny Gary Windram and then Tom Davies fired a shot over from distance. Josh Beveridge hit a shot that was netbound until debut man, Cameron Fyffe, deflected it over.

By now it had become really overcast but luckily Haddington were able to turn on their floodlights (another game elsewhere had to be abandoned because of poor light).

Jarrett came to the Hibs rescue again as he dived to push Robbie Peffers low cross away just as Davies was set to pounce.

The second-half was in its infancy when Peffers and Cameron Graham (twice) came close but no cigars were handed out. Jarrett saved another Peffers' effort then the same player ran clear but could only shoot wide past the advancing Jarrett.

Near the end Jarrett made yet another save – but that's what he's there for! - to stop Graham snatching a winner.

Statto's Corner:
* The Hibs have now played seven times against Haddington Athletic in the League and have yet to win - but have three draws.
* Macaulay Jarrett recorded his first clean sheet of the season and now has 18 in 57 appearances for the Hibs.
* The 0-0 scoreline is only the 9th time this has been recorded under manager Craig Gilbert (630 games).
* The Hibs failed to score in their opening two League games for the first time since season 2018/19. However, the two defeats to Carnoustie Panmure (0-3) and Lochee United (0-1) in the East Region Superleague were followed up by a 5-2 win against Whitburn in the next game, so hopefully this results pattern happens again!
