This very hard-earned victory allowed Thornton to move up to third spot in the First Division although there's no doubt that the Capital side created more goal-scoring opportunities, but a combination of good goalkeeping by Macaulay Jarrett and slack finishing cost them dear with Daniel McBay's header on the hour mark ultimately being the difference between the teams.
Three saves by Jarrett from Lucas Gibson, Matthew McCormack and Jamie Gibson meant that the game remained goal-less when the half-time whistle was blown.
When McBay converted Murray Black's cross to give Craig Gilbert's side the lead this appeared to give the home side a lift as they came close to equalising several times through Jamie Gibson, Hamish Milne, Fraser Munro, Calum Forrest, Darcy Munro and Lucas Gibson but it just wasn't their day with it getting even worse six minutes into added time when Campbell Tully was ordered-off for a second yellow card offence.
