Thornton Hibs – with new signing Corey Battrick making his debut - progressed into the third round of the League Cup after coming out on top in this all-Fife affair.
It was Shaun Keatings who gave Craig Gilbert's side an 11th minute by heading Lewis Rodger's cross over Owain Clark into the net and eight minutes later Keatings turned provider as it was his free-kick that allowed Stuart Drummond to double the Hibs lead.
Former Thornton striker, Joe Kinninmonth, came close to reducing the deficit with a header that flashed just wide and his team-mate, Lucas Berry, nodded the ball over the crossbar not long after but at the other end, Garry Thomson enjoyed better fortune on the stroke of half-time to smack the ball home from an acute angle to make it 3-0.
The second-half was only four minutes old when Thomson netted his second but this four-goal advantage existed for barely sixty seconds before half-time substitute, Lewis McKenzie, smacked home a beauty from the edge of the big box to reduce the leeway. And the same man smashed home another belter not long after only for the 'goal' to be chalked off for offside.
This win means that the Hibs will travel to take on Kennoway Star Hearts on a date to be advised.
