East of Scotland Football League - First Division

Match reporter: JOHN LAING

First Division champions, Camelon, were the final visitors to Memorial Park this season and prior to kick-off a minutes silence was observed after Hibs player, Stevie Jefferies, new born daughter tragically passed away.

The visitors came close to taking the lead in the 25th minute but Craig Doctor made a stunning save to push Scott Sinclair's free-kick onto the face of the crossbar before the ball was quickly played out of the danger zone then another free-kick – this one taken by Mark McKenzie – was headed into the sidenet by Dean Fitzpatrick.

Thornton had loud appeals for a penalty dismissed by the referee after Garry Thomson's free-kick appeared to strike a defender's arm and just as it looked as if the first-half was going to remain goal-less Liam McQuaid broke the deadlock in added time.

The Mariners doubled their advantage through Jordan Kirkpatrick in the 53rd minute then when McQuaid netted his second in the 80th minute it looked like it was all over bar the shouting however a defensive error by Liam Taggart allowed Garry Thomson to reduce the leeway then less than sixty seconds later Thomson headed Lewis Rodger's cross home to set up an interesting end to the game.

Just one minute at the back of this goal, another penalty shout, after Robbie Westwaters looked to be pushed to the ground by Taggart, again fell on deaf ears.

Deep into added time, Mark Shand completed the scoring to ensure that all three points returned to the Moore Equipment Hire Stadium.
