After failing to score in their previous outing, the Hibs fared much better in this latest pre-season friendly.
And yet it was the visitors who came close to talking the lead in the 2nd minute with Jordan Millar pulling off a fine flying save to keep out Barry Sibanda's sizzling strike.
Three minutes later, the former Thornton man, Scott Gilfillan, thought he'd opened the scoring only for the referee to chalk it off for handball.
Instead it was the Hibs who registered the first goal thanks to Darren Ormiston who finished well from Ben Rolland's perfect cross.
By the 20th minute it was 2-0 and it was Ormiston who demonstrated great skill before hitting the ball beyond the ex-Hibs goalie, Kyle Marley. Then Ormiston turned provider in the 35th minute as it was his cross that Garry Thomson headed home.
That was the end of the scoring although another former Memorial Park favourite, Elliot Ford, thought he'd netted a late consolation only to see the 'goal' not given because of offside.
Thornton Hibs: Millar, Robertson, A.Drummond, S.Drummond, Hepburn, Coleman, Trialist A, Adam, Ormiston, Thomson, Rolland. Subs: McNeish (Coleman - 67), Trialist B (Trialist A - 70), Trialist C (Adam - 80).
