This was a game that the Hibs made a massive contribution to but ended up with the sum total of diddly-squat.
After Ryan Linton had made an early save to deny Jed Davie, Thornton took a hold of the game by the scruff of the neck with Shaun Keatings forcing Alasdair Adams to pull off a fine save by pushing his fierce 25 yard drive around the post. From the resultant corner-kick the ball pinged around the wee box pin-ball style before being booted clear.
Raymond Crichton and Nathan Feeley then went close and Matthew Robertson watched in disbelief as his header came back off the crossbar.
The game changed just before half-time when the home side were awarded a free-kick wide on the left that was hotly disputed by the Hibs' defenders. Jed Davie wasn't complaining though, and his free-kick was perfectly placed to enter the net at 'the postage stamp'. Some of his team-mates asked if he meant it but it didn't matter if he did or not because the goal stood.
As far as some of the visiting players were concerned, this served to rub salt into the wounds and following some discussions the man in black produced some yellow cards with two of them being brandished in the direction of Daniel McNab who got first shot of the hot water.
Despite this handicap, Thornton contributed an awful lot to the second-half and one thing's for sure – they'll play a lot worse this season and win a game!
