Hibs progressed to the Second Round of the Fife and Lothians Cup, where they will meet Linlithgow Rose, with a 4-2 win over South Division side Easthouses Lily Miners Welfare.
Garry Thomson was the match winner with a hat-trick and Shaun Keatings netted his first competitive goal in a Hibs' jersey. Also of note was Ian Shanks making his 100th appearance for Thornton Hibs.
In an end-to-end first half, Hibs took the lead in the 36th minute with a Garry Thomson free kick from the edge of the penalty area that entered the net via the inside of the post. Easthouses were back on level terms before the half-time interval though; Stephen Ferguson got on the end of some good build-up play after 43 minutes to net from close range.
Easthouses got their noses in front in the 53rd minute when Ferguson latched onto a lovely through ball before netting from just inside the penalty area. Hibs pegged them back almost immediately, however, with a goal that the ‘Dubious Goals Panel’ would’ve had their work cut out to decide. In the end, both the referee and Garry Thomson gave it to Shaun Keatings to allow him to record his first competitive goal in the green and white.
Hibs eventually got back in front again in the 70th minute when Garry Thomson rose to head in Dale Robertson's free-kick and the victory was assured eight minutes later when Thomson completed his hat-trick with a superb curling effort that sailed into the top corner.
