With both teams going well in their respective leagues, it was anticipated that this game would be a fairly even contest and so it proved to be although it most certainly wasn't a classic by any stretch of the imagination.

Kamikaze defended allowed Dean Ballantyne to give The Seasiders a 12th minute lead and they had a great chance to double this lead only for Christopher Grant to hit the bar from close range. The crossbar was arguably the Hibs' Man of the Match as it came to their rescue twice more but only after Dean McMillan had equalised in the 27th minute after Chris Ireland's volley had been well saved by John Johnstone.

It was ten minutes later that the crossbar was hit again when Chris King's penalty, awarded when Dale Robertson brought down Christopher Grant, struck the underside of it and then minutes later, the same player watched in disbelief as his terrific free-kick again hit the bar. This time, his team-mate, Grant reacted quickest but Matthew Clark got down well to smother his effort.

Five minutes into the second-half, the visitors went ahead thanks to an own goal from Stuart Drummond although the Hibs' defender was unlucky as Matthew Clark had parried Grant's shot off him and the ball bounced into the net.

The equaliser in the 53rd minute was yet another own goal, this time from Scott Gibson who deflected Raymond Crichton's low cross over the line.
