This rare away league victory – only their second of the season – kept alive Thornton's slim hopes of avoiding relegation.

After coming close on a couple of occasions, the Hibs eventually took the lead in the 13th minute when Lea Schiavone shot high into the net from the edge of the area. And they came close several more times to increasing their lead before the half-time whistle sounded.

In the 52nd minute, a great move involved Ian Hepburn and Schiavone combining well before the latter laid the ball into the path of Jack Wilson whose first time effort fairly whizzed past Sean Robertson.

Shortly after, though, Falkirk reduced the deficit through Allan Scott who raced from the half-way line to shoot beyond the Hibs' trialist goalie.
 
Scott would've equalised had not Scott Gilfillan intercepted to head the ball inches wide of his own goal and then the striker had the ball in the net but to the relief of the visitors the ref disallowed it for offside.

Both teams were reduced to ten men within minutes of each other when Scott and Schiavone were both ordered-off for separate second yellow card offences and from then on in Falkirk held the upper hand and despite them throwing everything at Thornton's defence they just couldn't find the net mainly due to terrific defending and also a superb goal-line clearance from John Paul Burns.
