Wearing black armbands as a mark of respect to the their former coach, Ally Gourlay, who passed away last Sunday following a lengthy battle with cancer, Thornton Hibs lost this friendly at Dalgety Bay Sports Centre after yet another postponement 'thanks' to the absolutely bowfin' weather this country 'enjoys'.
Stevie Bathgate passed up a great opportunity to put Lochgelly ahead in the 17th minute when his penalty kick – awarded after Stuart Drummond brought down Ryan Robertson – struck the post but he made up for this with a stunning goal shortly after. There appeared to be no danger to the Hibs when Bathgate won possession in his own-half but he turned and ran unchallenged fully 60 yards before lashing the ball low and hard beyond Kyle Marley.
Ryan Robertson made it two in the 32nd minute with a fierce strike to complete the first-half scoring.
Five minutes into the second-half Chris Ireland reduced the deficit to one with a typical left-footed blast but in the 70th minute, Bathgate capitalised on shambolic defending to re-establish The Albert's two-goal advantage.
