This game definitely wasn't the one Pele was watching when he described football as 'The Beautiful Game' but it had it's moments with both teams' best players being their goalkeepers.
Mark Rowbotham in the Hibs' goal made a great save from Lee Maloney in the 7th minute but was powerless to prevent Andy McDonald's superbly taken free-kick from hitting the back of the net in the 37th minute. Nicholas Mann ought to have extended East Craigie's lead just before half-time but he headed weakly wide at the back post.
Thornton equalised two minutes into the second-half as Lea Schiavone calmly guided the ball beyond Shaun Logie for his first goal in a Hibs' jersey. Garry Thomson came close to putting Thornton ahead shortly after but watched in despair as the ball came back off the crossbar.
Stuart Drummond made a brilliant headed clearance off the goal-line but injured himself in doing so and he lasted a wee while before having to be substituted. Andrew Adam was denied by a fantastic tip-over from Shaun Logie and the big Shipbuilders' 'keeper made another blinding save from Chris Ireland's fierce strike.
Mark Rowbotham made a great save from Stephen McNally to keep the tie all-square before Thornton were reduced to ten men when Greig Renton was red-carded for lifting his hands.
Right at the death, Shaun Logie ensured that this Scottish Cup-Tie would require a replay when he saved well from Daniel McNab.
