As far as Thornton were concerned, this game bore an uncanny resemblance to their previous outing. Like the Saturday before, the half-time score was 0-0 and the Hibs were well on top although it has to be said that the Montrose 'keeper could've easily been replaced by a tailor's dummy so little did he have to do.
Craig Anderson gave the home side the lead in the 82nd minute and two minutes later Nicky McGowan headed past his own goalie following a serious breakdown in communication.
The only other points of interest to report were that the Hibs were seriously short-staffed so much so that they only had two subs, one of whom was a goalkeeper and he came on to play in a striker's role for the last five minutes. Oh – and when was the last time (if ever) you witnessed not one but four foul throws in a single game!
