Thornton twice came from behind to eventually claim all three points from this exciting Premier Division game.
Before the end of the first minute Arniston were ahead when Daniel Thomson's free-kick from wide on the left took a deflection off Chris Ireland and ended up in the back of the net. By the fifth minute it was all-square as Garry Thomson scored direct from a corner-kick.
The visitors regained the lead early in the second-half with Daniel Thomson playing his part again. It was his deep free-kick that Nick Faulds headed back across the face of goal to Danny McFadden who made no mistake from close range.
Daniel McNab's brilliant free-kick in the 56th minute levelled affairs once more and then in the 69th minute Andrew Adam was introduced to the fray. Within four minutes, Adam headed the Hibs in front as he got on the end of Adam Drummond's cross at the back post.
Five minutes later Nick Faulds earned himself a yellow card when he brought the Hibs' substitute down in the box. Chris Ireland took the resultant penalty-kick but Dale Cornet made a terrific save to prevent Thornton going two up.
In the end though, this miss didn't matter as Craig Gilbert's side held on to achieve their second win of the season.
