For this all-Fife affair, the Hibs had two new signings on show. Kyle Marley, a goalkeeper signed on loan from Kelty Hearts, and Stuart Drummond who was a free agent. Both had previously turned out as trialists though – Drummond played at Haddington the previous Saturday whilst Marley had been between the sticks at Whitburn four years previous. This was also a big night for an ex-Star Hearts' man, Mathew Gay, as this was his 100th appearance for Thornton.
Short-staffed Star had no fewer than five trialists in their squad including the former Hibs' captain, Alan McAllister, who had a terrific game for the visitors.
After both teams had come close through Daniel McNab and Liam Craig, it was Star who took the lead from the penalty spot in the 10th minute with their top scorer, Kieran Band, blasting the ball high into the net after he'd been downed in the area.
One minute into the second-half, McNab equalised before Band brought out a brilliant save from Marley with a superb curling free-kick around the bottom of the defensive wall.
The visitors regained the lead in the 63rd minute after Brodie Gray's blast from 25 yards took a wee deflection before flashing into the bottom corner of the net.
Deep into stoppage time, McNab struck again to salvage a point for the Hibs with what was the second-last kick of the game as the match was over immediately after Star took centre.
