For their first midweek game of the season, the Hibs travelled to Perth to take on Jeanfield Swifts and the outcome ultimately boiled down to a tale of two goalkeepers. Mark Mitchell, in the home goal, looked assured all evening whereas the normally reliable Mark Rowbotham had an off-night that he'd prefer to forget.
The Jeanies began in determined fashion and twice Rowbotham came to his side's rescue with smart saves however his reaction to Chris Dodd's 35th minute powerful drive nestling in the back of the net told the story after the ball flashed below his arm.
This goal appeared to bring some life to the Hibs who then went on to enjoy some decent possession with Jimmy Shields smashing in a 25 yard volley that Mitchell claimed just below the crossbar.
Just before the hour mark, Mitchell made an outstanding save to prevent Ian Hepburn's header from counting and just as it looked like Craig Gilbert's side was looking the more likely side to score, Dodd turned provider in the 66th minute with a cross that was perfect for John Anderson to double Jeanfield's lead.
The third goal came just five minutes later when Rowbotham spilled a low cross with Daniel Kelly taking full advantage to prod the loose ball over the line.
Mathew Gay headed home Raymond Crichton's cross four minutes from time to give the Hibs something to show for their efforts but it proved to be a case of too little too late.
