With 17 years-old Jack Wilson playing in an unaccustomed left-back position, the Hibs kept their first clean sheet of the season as they collected all three points at Westview Park.
Although Thornton were on top in terms of possession, they never broke the deadlock until the 40th minute when Chris Ireland, in his 100th appearance for the club, played a great one-two with his strike partner, Aiden Gordon, before lashing the ball beyond the helpless Scott Knox.
Raymond Crichton netted the second ‘killer’ goal just four minutes later to put the visitors on easy street but it wasn’t until the 73rd minute that the Hibs could build on this lead when the unfortunate Robbie George could only divert Crichton’s shot into his own goal to complete the scoring.
