This game was the proverbial game of two halves. The Hibs blew Lochore away in the first-half and took a 3-0 interval lead but they should be thankful that the referee didn’t apply the ‘three corners a penalty’ rule as the visitors turned the screw in the second forty five.
Thornton went ahead in the 16th minute when Mathew Gay’s cross was cleverly flicked into the path of Garry Thomson by Chris Ireland and the Hibs’ wide man converted from close range.
Gay was the architect of the second goal too, on the half hour mark, with a terrific cross that was perfect for the inrushing Adam Drummond to bullet home a header at the back post.
The third goal, just three minutes later, was vintage Wimbledon stuff. Mark Rowbotham launched a long ball downfield that Chris Ireland brilliantly laid off for Aiden Gordon and the Hibs’ number nine coolly clipped past Gary Inglis.
Despite having the Hibs on the back foot for long periods of the second-half, Lochore only found the net once, in the 65th minute, when Kevin Goodwin netted from Lee Reid’s great pass.
