This latest victory means Thornton have now won six games on the trot, scoring an amazing twenty-seven goals and conceding eight in the process. 

Matthew Gay opened the scoring in the 21st minute as he powerfully headed home Garry Thomson’s corner-kick and it was from another corner-kick – this one taken by Andrew Adam – that Chris Ireland headed number two shortly before the interval.

Six minutes into the second-half, Thomson’s well placed low drive made it 3-0 for the Hibs but within two minutes, Steven Harris’ well struck volley reduced the leeway to two.

In the 56th minute, ‘Burgh goalie, Craig Houston, had one of those moments he’d rather forget. A long ball took a wicked bounce in front of him and as it went over his head, Chris Ireland took full advantage to run past him and knock the ball into the unguarded net.

With nine minutes remaining, Garry Thomson claimed, without doubt, the best goal of the match as his superb first touch from Matthew Gay’s deep cross sent his marker the wrong way and with his second touch he coolly picked his spot behind Craig Houston.
