The Hibs were punished for slack defending when Newburgh visited Memorial Park on Saturday.
The visitors took the lead in the 15th minute when Jordon Davidson made space for himself before shooting past Mark Rowbotham.
Kris Maxwell equalised just four minutes later but only another two minutes had elapsed before Scott Mackain put ‘Burgh back in front following Allan Tulleth’s corner-kick.
Shortly before half-time it was déjà vu as the same pairing combined to extend Newburgh’s lead to two.
Any hopes of a Hibs’ comeback were dashed early in the second-half when Chris McLeish took full advantage of Keystone Cops’ style defending to stroke the ball into an unguarded net.
Adam Drummond’s 65th minute volley did, for a brief moment, make the Hibs’ supporters believe that a comeback might be on the cards but there was to be no more scoring.
