The Hibs defeated Lochgelly 3-2 at Gardiners Park with all their goals coming from set-pieces.
Fraser Terras’ cross cum shot crashed off the crossbar in the 21st minute but two minutes later, his team netted the opener. Kris Maxwell’s free-kick was met by the head of Adam Drummond and he made no mistake from 5 yards.
A wee while later the visitors doubled their advantage after Willie Thomson had made a terrific point-blank save to deny Drummond his second. From the resultant corner-kick, Fraser Terras headed home Andrew Adam’s pinpoint cross.
Before the interval, Thornton had the ball in the net again but the referee ruled out Garry Thomson’s strike for offside.
Lee Celentano pulled one back for the Albert in the 53rd minute but nine minutes later the Hibs restored their two goal advantage.
Kris Maxwell was the provider again and this time Chris Ireland was the beneficiary as headed into the net from 12 yards.
Lochgelly were awarded a free-kick 20 yards from goal in the 73rd minute. Before it could be taken, Thornton made a substitution. Darren Seath did not allow this delay to put him off as his aim was true, giving Mark Rowbotham no chance.
Although Hibs’ sub, Murray Campbell, came close to finding the net with a shot that smacked off the upright, there was no further scoring before the ref blew the final whistle that signalled the end of Lochgelly’s season.
