You just never know which Thornton Hibs’ team is going to turn up. The one that can thump Spartans and Haddington or the one which can gift goals to the opposition in the manner which they did this time around.
 
And there were barely 40 seconds on the clock when the visitors took the lead after schoolboy defending allowed Paddy Deane to shoot into an unguarded net.
 
Mark Gordon’s header made it two in the 9th minute and when Deane scored his second in the 18th minute, it was quite apparent that it was just going to be a damage limitation exercise as far as the Hibs were concerned.
 
Tony Holt and Mark Gordon added to the scoresheet before Stevie Crichton sounded his whistle for half-time.
 
To their credit, Thornton got their collective fingers out in the second-half and it was the 86th minute before Jeanfield added to their tally when a shot deflected off Ian Shanks and into his own goal.
 
Garry Thomson pulled one back for Thornton within sixty seconds but it was Robbie Holden who had the last word in the final minute as he shot home from close range.
