During the week, Tottenham supporters taunted Hearts supporters with a shout of “Are you West Ham in disguise?!” On Saturday, Saints’ supporters would’ve been within their rights to shout “Are you Hearts in disguise?” as their side blew the Hibs away.

To be fair, Thornton found themselves 2-0 down after eleven minutes following two poor decisions from the referee and this knocked the heart out of them whilst St Andrews’ tails were up.

The first came in the 7th minute when he pointed to the penalty spot despite there being no shouts from the home team. St Andrews weren’t about to argue though and Kevin Fotheringham lashed home the spot-kick although Mark Rowbotham got a hand to his well hit and placed shot.

Ryan Dignan couldn’t have been more offside if he’d been standing on the 18th at the Old Course but there was no whistle as he squared the ball for Gary Sutherland to make it two.

Mark Rowbotham in the Hibs’ goal made a number of superb one on one stops to keep the score down but he was powerless to prevent Gary Sutherland making it 3-0 in the 24th minute. Seven minutes later Fotheringham headed Saints’ fourth and that was the end of the first half-scoring.

Five minutes into the second-half, Fotheringham struck a brilliant free-kick to make it five and three minutes later Sutherland netted Saints’ sixth. Ryan Dignan scored the seventh from the penalty spot and Johnny McCrae wrapped things up near the end to complete this humiliating rout.
