This was one of the greatest days in the history of Thornton Hibs and even the weather 'behaved itself' as a mark of respect to Stubo! Stuart played a half for each team (he was replaced by Nicky McGowan late in the second-half) and was per usual 'sticking out'. For the record his first-half team won 5-3 with the opening strike coming from Shaun Keatings (only after a VAR check by first-half referee, Ricky Smith). Keats then turned provider with Stuart's brother Jay Sutherland converting his cross. Jay went on to net again to make the half-time score 3-0. Ricky Smith was replaced at half-time by yet another Hibs' great, Andy Adam, who (and you couldn't make this up!) is giving up playing to become a referee! Stuart swapped sides at the interval and saw his 'new' side pull a goal back through Garry Thomson jnr. The next goal came at the other end as Jay completed his hat-trick. Normally on a testimonial day the obligatory penalty kick is awarded to let the man in question get on the scoresheet but on this occasion this wasn't needed after Stuart netted an absolute reeker from 25 yards to make it 4-2. Another of Stuart's brothers, Liam Sutherland, made it 5-2 before Harris Jolicoeur completed the scoring to make it 5-3. Daniel McNab had an opportunity to make it 6-3 but his penalty-kick taken 'Rabona' style ended up in Thornton Main Street! Afterwards everyone retired to The Station Hotel where a great night was had by all. More photos to follow.
