DERRY WALLACE RIP

DERRY WALLACE RIP

John Laing25 May - 06:31

Hibs' great has passed away

Derry's daughter, Colette, contacted the club to let us know that her Dad had passed away. Derry was a forward who played for the Hibs in the 60's. In 1963 the Hungarian Miners team visited Scotland. They defeated the Hibs 1-0 in Memorial Park. Derry remembered the game vividly and said that they were bemused by the fact that instead of just launching the ball upfield, the Hungarian goalie would roll the ball out to one of the full backs to work the ball forward gradually! The Miners team also defeated the Scottish Miners (2-0) and Arniston Rangers (3-0). On 14th June 2023 a number of people, including Derry, were invited to East End Park, Dunfermline for a 'reunion' meeting. Derry - who also played for the Scottish Miners whilst representing Bowhill Colliery - is pictured with the pennant presented to the club in 1963 and it is still displayed (as is the photo of Derry holding it) in the hospitality cabin at the ground. Derry's funeral is at Kirkcaldy Crematorium on Friday 6th June at 12.45 then afterwards at the Victoria Hotel, Kirkcaldy.
